After countless hours of decision making and time spent you now need to decide on what paint to use on your kitchen.
Painting your kitchen is important to protect walls and surfaces that may over time develop damage from moisture and every day use. Using the appropriate paint and sheen can help protect your property and extend its longevity.
The sheen on your paint is created by the resins and adhesive binders that evaporate over time. Bonding to your surface and creating a barrier between the atmosphere and your surfaces interior.
Sheens come in more than a few grades. The most common sheens used on kitchens and bathrooms are Semi-Gloss, Eggshell, and Satin. These sheens tend to have the most protection and usually do not have a high gloss. There are other options for sheens depending on your kitchens location, ventilation, and design.
High Gloss or Gloss is used on many modern or commercial kitchens. But usually is not used in residential projects. There is also a Low Sheen and Matte options but is not recommended unless you have a large open floorplan where are is constantly flowing.
Typically Semi-Gloss, Eggshell, or Satin are used due to its moisture barrier that is easy to clean. In most cases a properly applied sheen can keep your kitchen walls looking clean and helps with disinfecting when needed. With the appropriate sheen you can wash your walls with a clean lightly damp sponge or cloth and light detergent. This cannot be done with any sheen lower than Satin as it will absorb the moisture causing damage to your walls.
